Garden Grove is Christian’s Home - she was insistent that she and her family were not moving to the Valley; but after stepping foot in this 1955 Ranch House
brimming with character,
she happily conceded.

Little Bernadette’s room is a riot of personality with Joseph Frank clover wallpaper and a clashing curtain fabric by the same maker.
The walls are decorated with mismatched art finds and
the bed is dotted in
bright red strawberries.
It’s funny and fearless for a little girl who matches the
same description.

We wanted to strip away any
un-original finishes and restore the house to its former glory. Christian chose finishes that were period appropriate: cork floors, hand glazed ceramic tile and a stacked brick fireplace.

The bathroom (expanded by
occupying an adjacent closet )
is drenched in a vibrant blue 5 x 5 ceramic tile. The same douglas fir plywood used in the kitchen cabinetry clads a floating single vanity. Christian opted for a cotton block print curtain over a glass enclosure - a bit more charming and unexpected.

The home was in pretty bad shape - but the previous owners had managed to leave the bones of the place intact and along with that, the architectural integrity.

In terms of modernizing the house, energy was focused on making the kitchen a hub for her family. The walls were opened and
U-shape born out of the addition of a tamboured green island.
She played with a post -modern nod in the way of the
chunky brass hardware, radius corners and marble top.
